The file name is included in the text-label variables that you can send to the Diff / Merge tool (_AncestorLabel_, _Derivative1Label_, _Derivative2Label_), but it's only part of the text string. #BEYOND COMPARE TOOL ARCHIVE#tmp files when dealing with archive revisions, so there are no file-types you can glean from. It's a little hard to write this as a batch file, as the file names being passed to Diff / Merge are all. If you have additional questions, please let me know. And in the rare case you need file-type specific Diff / Merge tool handling, there is even a way to make that work, though that level of customization cannot be done from the Diff/Merge tool configuration dialog. The expanded macro parameters are also being passed as environment variables to the Diff/Merge tool to facilitate this. Note that there is an additional parameter that could be used to optionally pass an argument to the Diff tool whenever a user selects Ignore Whitespace. The User's Guide has details in the section "Specifying a Difference or Merge tool". This is helpful if you want to switch between different tools (so you don't have to keep re-entering the entire command), or if you want to make a particular tool available to other users, though they would have to share the same installation to pick up those changes (eg. #BEYOND COMPARE TOOL HOW TO#That list of pre-defined Diff and Merge tools is configurable in the file VM_Install_Dir\vm\common\pvcsprop\pvcs\vm\diffmerge.properties, and you could add new tools there once you worked out how to call them. It will populate the Diff command and/or Merge command with the values that should work for those tools. VM 8.2 ships with examples for TkDiff and WinDiff/WinMerge, which you can pick using the same "()" selection button. It is up to you to find out which command line parameters beyond compare needs/accepts, and craft those options accordingly. Pressing the "()" button in the Diff tool and Merge tool selection respectively gives you an overview of the available parameters for each tool. Version Manager provides a number of macros that will expand based upon the user's selection at the time the Diff or Merge tool is called. In both cases the assumption is that the tool being entered is accessible from the systems running the VM client, using the arguments as they were entered. I'll look into adding this to the FAQ as well.As of VM 8.2, users can specify their Diff and Merge tool of choice on the Diff/Merge tab of the View -> Options dialog in the desktop client GUI, or on the Advanced tab of the Edit -> Options dialog in VM I-Net web client. Try that and let me know whether that gives you what you're wanting or not. Minor hides "unimportant differences" such as white space changes, end of line changes, changes only in comments, etc. Another useful option when looking at the results of a retrieve operation is Show Left Newer and Left Orphans. You'll likely want to change the first option to others in the drop-down depending on what you're trying to do. All or Same) with Structure and Minor both selected.
